Abstract

With the increasing global environmental challenges resulting from globalization, the preservation of natural resources, sustainable development, and the balance between economic, social, and environmental dimensions have become a growing international concern. Contemporary concepts such as climate change, the green economy, circular economy, and environmental and climate justice have emerged, aiming to promote sustainability. Despite the novelty of these concepts, Islamic teachings encompass established principles and foundations that align with these modern ideas, reflecting an intrinsic commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. This study aims to examine the extent to which Islamic principles and measures harmonize with contemporary environmental concepts by analyzing the texts of the Qur’an and the Prophetic Sunnah, alongside juristic opinions, and linking them to international environmental law and relevant global agreements. The findings indicate that numerous Islamic principles correspond with modern standards for environmental protection, offering a comprehensive vision for fostering positive interaction with nature within an ethical and human-centered framework. The study recommends utilizing Islamic values and legislation in formulating integrated environmental policies that support international efforts to achieve sustainable development goals, ensuring a balance between economic progress and the preservation of environmental resources.
