Abstract

This study includes an explanation of the original significance and the secondary significance according to Imam Al-Shatibi and an explanation of the way he dealt with them, through the verses of the Holy Qur’an that he mentioned in his book Al-Muwafaqat, along with a statement of the sayings of the master commentators about the verses under investigation whenever the research requires that.This study aims to reach knowledge of the original and subsidiary significance and the method of Imam Al-Shatibi in dealing with them through the verses of the Holy Qur’an. In his study, the researcher mainly followed two approaches: descriptive and comparative.Among the most prominent findings reached by the researcher is that the original connotation is a foundational connotation of the meanings that everyone shares in knowing, in which tongues come together, and to which the speakers’ intentions end, and that the accessory connotation is restricted words and phrases that indicate serving, affirmative meanings that do not bring a new ruling.
