The study is related to the Shafi'i school's application of the    purposeful reasoning in the principles and branches of their school, whether at the theoretical or practical level, with the aim of demonstrating the extent to which the Shafi'is consider the purposeful reasoning in the principles and branches of their school, and the purposeful aspect of the reasoning of rulings according to them. The study followed the inductive, analytical, and deductive approach, through induction, analysis, and deduction of what is related to the purposeful reasoning in the principles of the Shafi'i school, and the methods of the school's scholars in dealing with it.

The study concluded that the reasoning had an effective role in the Shafi'i school, as the school expanded the purposeful reasoning when it took into account the significance of the context and the reasoning with wisdom, and in return it narrowed the scope of purposeful reasoning in terms of reducing the work with some tools of ijtihad that receive greater attention in highlighting the legal objectives, such as approval and blocking the means and others.
