A Critical Hadith Study on the Authenticity of Sleep Descent: An Investigative Analysis of the "Ighfa’ah" Hadith in Terms of Narration and Understanding.
Abstract
It is well known to scholars that the Holy Qur’an was revealed by Gabriel, peace be upon him, to our Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, while he was awake. However, it was reported in Sahih Muslim, on the authority of Al-Mukhtar bin Fuful, on the authority of Anas, that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, fell asleep and then informed him of the revelation of Surat Al-Kawthar and its recitation to them, which was confirmed by the hadith of “the dozing.” So the effort was moved to verify and clarify the extent of the authenticity of its confirmation, by collecting the paths and a thousand hadiths of the same meaning that were influenced by it. And its study in terms of narration and knowledge, and the study concluded that the mention of the nap and the revelation of Surat Al-Kawthar in it was unique to one of the narrators, namely Mukhtar bin Baybar, and although he was believed by a group of the people of criticism and correction, there is talk in it from Ibn Hibban and others, which makes the research assert the anomaly of his narration, and the great group of the companions of Anas bin Malik did not contradict him, and among them are the great trustworthy ones, and it became clear through the method of Muslim, which he promised in following up his Sahih by explaining the causes, that he supports it to explain it, and accordingly what some of the distinguished scholars did is this narration of the Prophet, not him, because of its anomaly, and God knows best
