Abstract

This paper aims at eliciting the rules that govern the interpretation of the Holy Quran in one of the most significant and ancient books of interpretation, Alisharat Alelaheye ela Almabaheth Alosoleyeh (The Divine References to the Fundamentalist Investigations]. The book was written by Imam Najem Al-Deen Al-Toofey; Sulaiman bin Abed Al-Qawi Al-Sarsari, who died in 716 A. H. To achieve the aim of eliciting the rules that govern the interpretation of the Holy Quran, the paper has throughout been adopting inductive, deductive, and descriptive approaches. The approaches have carefully been structured into an introduction, three requirements, and a conclusion. The paper has achieved several substantial results that include the following:

- Imam Al-Toofey provided several novel contributions and statements that crucially improve the rules of interpretations. Indeed, his book serves as a very significant reference among the references related to the rules of interpretation.

- The rules of interpretation that were elicited from Al-Toofey’s book are characterized by several distinctive features; they are stipulated through accurate statements, they are directly supported by verses from the Holy Quran, and they are various in terms of the scientific issues they are related to.
