Abstract

Ziyadat al-Thiqat is one of the important critical principles that the scholars of Hadith, Fiqh, and Usul have paid great attention to, due to its impact on the authentication of Hadith and its role in legal reasoning. Ibn al-Salah dedicated a specific section to it in his ‘Ulum al-Hadith. In the course of this discussion, he mentioned a three-part division, which some scholars considered to be a division of the subject of Ziyadat al-Thiqat. However, al-Zarkashi held that this division pertains to Tafarrud al-Thiqa, not to Ziyadat al-Thiqat itself. This research aims to determine the more correct view through a detailed analysis of Ibn al-Salah’s statements, approach, and related discussions on this topic.
