Abstract
This study aimed to examine Ibn Ashur's use of the exclusion technique (al-qasr) in his exegesis, al-Tahrir wa al-Tanwir, using Surah Al Imran as a model. The study sought to understand the impact of this restrictive construction on the interpretation of verses and the direction of meaning.
The study began with an introduction outlining the importance of the research, its problem statement, its objectives, previous studies on the exclusion construction, and the research plan. The study was divided into two main sections: Section One: The Exclusion Construction, comprising four subsections: Subsection One: Defining Exclusion; Subsection Two: The Two Elements of Exclusion; Subsection Three: Types of Exclusion; and Subsection Four: Clarifying the Methods of Exclusion.
Second Section: The Applied Study: The Methods of Exclusion that Ibn Ashur employed in his exegesis of Surah Al Imran. This section also contained four subsections: Subsection One: Exclusion through Negation and Exception; Subsection Two: Exclusion using "Innama" (only); Subsection Three: Exclusion by placing what should be delayed first; and Subsection Four: Other Methods of Exclusion: Restriction by defining the two parts, using a separating pronoun, and using conjunctions.
The study examined the methods of Exclusion employed by Ibn Ashur in his exegesis of Surah Al Imran. The study reached several key conclusions, most notably that Ibn Ashur employs Exclusion language in interpreting verses and guiding their meaning. He elaborates on some verses, while leaving others uncommented.
