The concept of practical transmission in the documentation of the Prophetic Sunnah appears alongside isnad (chain of transmission) documentation, reassuring us of the reliability of the Sunnah we have received and proving that the early Salafi schools relied on it, as evidenced in their texts. Practical transmission served as a means to distinguish between legislative and non-legislative Sunnah, to clarify the terms used in their applications of the concept, and the resulting effect confirms that the Sunnah has reached us intact. Practical transmission purified the Sunnah from any defects that occurred during transmission, and both practical and isnad transmission combined to establish the attribution of the Sunnah to the Prophet ﷺ. This stands as one of the strongest responses to those who doubt the reliability of the noble Sunnah.
