Al-Zamakhshari’s Rhetorical questions according to the syntax and their effect in interpretation
(Surat Al-Anfal as a model) (Comparative analytical study)
Abstract
Abstract
This research examines Al-Zamakhshari’s rhetorical inquiries regarding "Ilm al-Ma’ani" (the science of meanings) within Surat Al-Anfal. The researcher identified twenty-three inquiries involving word order (presentation and delay), disjunction and conjunction, lexical choice, and brevity versus prolixity. The study elucidates Al-Zamakhshari’s perspectives and uncovers the underlying rhetorical subtleties (nukat).
Through a comparative analytical approach, the researcher contrasts Al-Zamakhshari’s views with those of other prominent commentators, weighing various interpretations to favor what best aligns with the Quranic context and linguistic systems (nazm). The findings highlight Al-Zamakhshari’s precision, his prowess in analyzing multifaceted meanings, and his profound dedication to clarifying Quranic inimitability. Ultimately, the study underscores the significant scholarly impact of Al-Zamakhshari's interpretative depth, offering enriching insights for students of the Quran’s supreme rhetorical miracles.
