Abstract

This research aims at introducing Sheikh Zayed’s Encyclopedia of Jurisprudence and Fundamental Rules, and showing its importance for researchers and scholars of contemporary ijtihad (jurisprudence). The research illustrates how the encyclopedia works in addition to emphasizing the necessity of jurisprudence and fundamental rules for contemporary ijtihad.

Sheikh Zayed’s online Encyclopedia was chosen due to the great services it offers to researchers and to Islamic studies students in specific, in the light of increasing online research and the increasing number of online search engines which save time, effort and money for researchers.

The study adopted the descriptive approach to go beyond introducing the encyclopedia. It also demonstrates how it works and how researchers can use it to reach what they seek in the fastest way possible. The study includes four sections. The first deals with the necessity of jurisprudence and fundamental rules. The second assures the importance of online research and websites. Section three shows the role of Zayed’s Encyclopedia in contemporary ijtihad, while section four illustrates the way the encyclopedia works.
