Absract
The study aimed to identify the level of phonological awareness skills and the level of expressive language skills among children with autism spectrum disorders and the relationship between them. The study followed the methodological descriptive approach, and the sample of the study consisted of (44) boys and girls with autism spectrum disorders in Karak Governorate in the age group of (6-9) years. The phonological awareness scale and the expressive language scale prepared by the researcher were applied to them.
The results of the study showed that the level of phonological awareness among children with autism spectrum disorders was low, as the arithmetic mean of the total score was (0.33) with a standard deviation of (0.14). The study results also indicated that the level of expressive language among the study sample was low, as the average The arithmetic score for the total score is (0.47) with a standard deviation of (0.41). The results of the study also showed a high positive correlation in all domains of phonological awareness on the one hand and the total degree of expressive language on the other hand.
In the light of these results, the study recommended the necessity of paying attention to the skills of phonological awareness, including them in the content of the curricula, and the need for early intervention to detect problems of phonological awareness among children with autism spectrum disorders.
