Psychological alienation and its relationship to psychological resilience
Abstract
The current study aimed to identify the level of psychological alienation and its relationship to psychological resilience among the students of Al-Balqa Applied University, and to achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive correlational approach was used, and the study sample consisted of (337) students from the humanities colleges at Al-Balqa Applied University (Center), and it was chosen by the simple random method. The current study also used two tools: the first is a measure of psychological alienation (estrangement from oneself, social isolation, aimlessness, non-normality, rebellion), and the second is a measure of psychological resilience.
The two study tools were developed by the researcher and their psychometric properties were verified through validity and reliability., then data was collected and analyzed statistically using the appropriate statistical methods for each question of the study. The results of the study indicated that the level of alienation is of a medium degree among students, the presence of a medium level in psychological resilience among students, and the presence of statistically significant differences in the level of psychological alienation among students. Al-Balqa Applied University due to the variables (sex, academic level), and the absence of statistically significant differences in the level of psychological resilience among students due to the variables (sex, academic level), and finally the existence of a statistically significant medium correlation between the level of psychological alienation and psychological resilience among students. As for the dimensions of psychological alienation, it was found that there is a weak relationship between each of these dimensions and psychological resilience. The study recommended the need to involve expatriate students psychologically in extracurricular social activities that deepen their connection to society.
