Abstract

Marriage customs and ceremonies in the society of the city of Damascus in the Mamluk era through the book Explanation of Ibn Touq (834-927 AH / 1430-1521 AD)

  The study aims to shed light on the customs, ceremonies and rituals of marriage in the society of the city of Damascus in the Mamluk era through the memoirs of Ibn Touq (834-).  927 A.H. / 1430-1521 A.D which was published under the title of the commentary book.  Who came to be written down as an eyewitness and a major participant because organizing and writing legal contracts before Sharia judges was one of his specialties and one of the tasks required by the nature of his work, which is the profession of testimony.  The study dealt with the customs and traditions of the Damascene society and how it participates in the engagement procedures, celebrations and subsequent rituals, and what is provided  to the participants in the engagement parties in terms of food and drink.  The study also highlighted the pillars of legal contracts according to Islamic teachings represented in the validity of powers of attorney for each of the spouses, determining the value of the deferred and expedited dowry and the details of the dependencies of the dowry.  The study also included a presentation of the ceremonial manifestations that are  practiced during marriage ceremonies and different types of traditional foods and drinks presented to the participants as Wedding guests.
