Abstract

The research attempts to reveal the duality of women's presence and absence in the introductions to the poems of the pre-Islamic poet Aws bin Hajar. The goal is to investigate this duality, study it, analyze it, reach what is related to it, interpret it, and come up with the implications that emerge from it. The research relied on the poet's collection to identify the poems whose introductions contained this duality. There were several categories under which women fall in social contexts, and the introductions dealt with the positive and negative sides of women’s presence, and it turned out that most of them were on the positive side, such as flirting and longing for women, and mentioned their moral virtues, such as chastity, generosity, chivalry, and relieving the distressed, and some of them were in less praiseworthy contexts, such as satire and humility. The research showed that introductions in which women were present were much larger than those in which they were absent, which indicates the status of women and interest in them. This research clarified the aesthetics of this dualism and the interpretation under which each case of the study falls, and that it constitutes a recurring model in pre-Islamic poetry, as the poetry of the great poet Aws bin Hajar was an example of this trend in pre-Islamic culture, from which we conclude that women were respected and celebrated in All aspects of life, urban and travel, feelings and interactions
