Abstract

To evaluate the ideas and themes, motif is one of the most important elements in analyzing literary texts. Motif is, in fact, the repetition of one of the elements used by the poet. The examination of this phenomenon is not restricted to mere addressing of its repetition in the poetic structure; rather, the aim is to investigate the effect of this word on the psyche of an individual. Adnan Alsaygh, the contemporary Iraqi poet, widely uses motif in his poems in order to be able to express his emotions and suffering. The most obvious motif seen in his poems is the motif of ‘window’ which, with its meaning and implication, informs the reader of the poet’s morality and mentality.

In the present paper and in a cross-sectional study, we analyze and explain the implications of the ‘window’ motif which appears frequently in the poets of this poem; then, we determine the frequency of this word and the related items, such as chamber and vent. Romantic, political-social, and estrangement implications are among the implications of this motif among which the romantic implication is the most obvious one, having a profound influence on the poet’s psyche in a foreign contrary. The findings show that ‘window’ is the most frequent poetic motif used by Adnan Alsaygh which has many implications and familiarizes us with the poet’s mentality and morality. The motif in his poetry is a pathway for pleasant memories and anticipation for pleasing desires, and at times to despair, death, failure, and smother.
