Abstract

The present study aimed at identifying the effectiveness of a cognitive behavioral counseling program. This program is introduced for mothers who have autistic children with stubborn behavior and enrolled in the special education centers in Zarqa Governorate. The sample consisted of forty mothers. For the purpose of the study, two instruments were developed: the scale of obstinacy which consists of (36) items and a behavioral cognitive counselling program that consists of (13) counselling sessions implemented for five weeks. The results showed the effectiveness of the program for mothers to reduce the level of stubbornness of their autistic children. In light of the results, the researcher recommends the use of the cognitive behavioral counselling program for the autistic children with stubborn behavior. The researcher also recommends further studies to be conducted.
