Abstract

This study aims to clarify the image of the Christian “the other” in Andalusian Arab poetry at Banil-Ahmar era in the Kingdom of Granada during the period (638-897 AH), especially as that was a great presence and an active member in the Andalusian society at that time. This study is an attempt to unveil the image that came through revealing the evidence and poetic texts and exploring its surroundings, which formed a rich material that was able to enrich literary production in that era. This study presented the most important reasons behind the presence of the other Christian and increasing numbers in Granada and their prominent role in the process of growth in all areas of life, having contributed to the progress of trade and economy, and occupying important positions in administration and army. In return, the Muslims gave the Christians freedom of religion and worship, and religious practices that had been preached in their holy book (the Bible) and touched upon their religious principles such as the doctrine of Trinitarianism.
