Abstract

       He is Ahmad ibn Yahya Shamsud-Din Al-Sahrawardi, one of the most famous calligraphers in the history of Arabic calligraphy. He was known as one of the six students of Yaqout Al-Musta’simi, according to what Arabic and non-Arabic references of calligraphy mentioned after the 9^th. AH / 15^th. AD century. This study discusses the percentage of Al-Sahrawardi's discipleship to Yaqout ​​on which calligraphy references are almost unanimous until it becomes a postulate and a proven fact in the history of the art of Arabic calligraphy. This study introduces an important illustration of Al-Sahrawardi written by Salaho-Din Bin Aybak Al-Safadi, contemporary of Al-Sahrawardi, as it is conclusive evidence that denies that Al-Sahrawardi was the student of Al-Musta’simi, and thus the "myth of the" six ​​disciples of Yaqout" in the history of Arabic calligraphy. The study also presents an artistic comparison between the calligraphy of Al-Suhrawardi and Ibn Al-Bawab’s, whom Al-Sahrawardi used his method that was prevailed in Baghdad at the time, emphasizing that Al-Sahrawardi followed the method of Ibn Al-Bawab in calligraphy, not the method of Yaqout Al-Musta’simi.
