Abstract

    This study deals with the books of Ottoman military division and main reasons behind the use of military divider in the books of the military division in the state of Aleppo during the second half of the eleventh century/ 17th century AD. It investigators the manner of divider's appointment, deputies, personnel, and duties and the main military dividers. It also explores the role of Aleppo courts, duties of dividers and their deputies therein, fees, staff, penalties imposed on him and his staff if there is a manipulation, and practical applications of some cases by dividers till military division was cancelled. 

      This study also investigates the documents that appear in the books of military division, especially those that refer to the role of the military divider. Such documents include marriage contracts, the division of inheritance, selling and freeing slaves and slave liberation, the identification of heirs and inheritances and contracts divorce
