Abstract

The study aimed at identifying the phenomenon of youth hanging around in front of female schools in Jerash governorate and its reasons from the point of view of female teachers according to the variables of age, monthly income, experience and residence. To achieve the objectives of the study, the social survey method was adopted and a questionnaire was used to collect the data from 182 female teachers. The questionnaire in its final form was divided into two questions and consisted of twenty-one items based on Likert scale to reveal the causes of youth hanging around. The results showed that the most frequent practices were verbal harassment followed by writing on the walls of the schools, driving irresponsibly, and finally physical acts. Furthermore, the study showed that the reasons for youth hanging around were social, economic and psychological with 4.295%, 3.905% and 3.485%, respectively. Based on the results, some relevant recommendations were presented
