Abstract

Objective of the study: The study aimed to investigate the question of identify based on its approach in contemporary Arab thought by Arab thinkers (Al-Jabri, Hanafi, Al-Mesiri, Ali Harb). This approach governed the issue of identity considering the problem of the historical and cultural reality in the Arab self and its representations.

The problem of the study: Approaches to identity in contemporary Arab thought suffer from twe factors: The intensity of the ideological and political presence in this thought and the limitation of the scientific vision that investigates identity. Therefore, the study attempted to answer: Is Arabic identity a fixed and self-sufficient entity? Or is there a mechanism in which it constantly interacts and forms?

Results: The study concluded that understanding the idea of identity as an independent issue itself not possible. Because it is a branch of a root; The root of it is the problem of historical reality, which reflects the problem of progress in global space.
