Abstract:
The study aimed to identify the predictive ability of mindfulness and psychological flow for the degree of anxiety symptoms among first-year students at the University of Jordan. The study used the descriptive, predictive, correlational approach, and the study sample consisted of (380) first-year male and female students at the University of Jordan who were selected intentionally. To achieve the objectives of the study, the Mindfulness Scale was developed and consists of (31) items, and includes four dimensions: awareness of the present, focus on the present moment, non-judgment of thoughts, sustained attention, and the Psychological Flow Scale, which consists of (39) items, and includes five dimensions: Clear goals, a sense of control, challenge, integrating awareness of performance, and clear feedback. The anxiety scale consists of (20) items. The results of the study showed that the level of mental alertness and psychological flow among the study individuals was high, while the level of anxiety was moderate, and that mental alertness and psychological flow had a significant contribution in explaining the variation in anxiety symptoms. The study reached a set of recommendations, the most important of which is the necessity of benefiting from the level of mental alertness and high psychological flow among first-year students by assigning them projects appropriate to the stage they are going through.
