Eternity in the poetry of Ibn al-Khayat al-Dimashqi - a descriptive and analytical study-

The research dealt with time in the poetry of Ibn al-Khayyat al-Dimashqi (d. 517 AH) through study and analysis, as he examined the image of time for him and how it had an impact on his poetry and style, by studying the influences that formed the image of time in his poetry, in addition to the fact that time was for him an emotional outlet and an effective force. And it changes things, especially since the image of time has been abundantly evident in his collections, using rhetorical techniques that he excelled in narrating.

The research relied on the descriptive and analytical approach in order to determine the reason for the frequent occurrence of this concept in the collections of Ibn al-Khayyat.

The study concluded that the images and representations of eternity were numerous in Ibn al-Khayyat’s poetry, and it highlights the image of the praised one or (the savior) who saves those around him from the never-ending blows of eternity, in a way that relieves the afflicted from their afflictions. The nature of the era was also reflected in the image of eternity according to Ibn al-Khayyat. Al-Khayyat, which we find in laments for rulers and their families, which falls under the purpose of national lamentation that developed in the Abbasid era. The poet attributed to time all the obstacles he encounters in his life, from changing conditions, the treachery of friends, and placing blame on time as an unknown moral cause that harms people. Humans, which suits the poet's representations of him.
