The predictive ability of quiet ego and cognitive flexibility in post-traumatic growth among Syrian refugees in Ajloun Governorate.
Abstract
The study aimed to identify the predictive ability of both quiet ego and cognitive flexibility in post-traumatic growth. The study followed the predictive approach. The study sample consisted of (437) Syrian refugees who were exposed to a traumatic event, To achieve the objectives of the study, three scales were developed: cognitive flexibility, quiet ego and post-traumatic growth. The validity and reliability of the scales were verified, and then they were applied to the study sample. The results of the study indicated that the degree of cognitive flexibility, quiet ego, and post-traumatic growth among Syrian refugees were moderate, and cognitive flexibility and quiet ego together explained (21.3%) of post-traumatic growth, this is cognitive flexibility variable was most capable of explaining Prediction, which explained (16.7%), while the quiet ego variable explained . (4.6%)It also showed that there were no statistically significant differences )α=0.05) in the relationship between cognitive flexibility and post-traumatic growth according to the variables of gender and the duration of asylum, while there was a significance differences according to the variable of age, that is The relationship was highest among those aged 30-45. comparing with (30 years and less). There are no statistically significant differences )α=0.05) in the relationship between the quiet ego and post-traumatic growth according to the variables of gender and age, while there was a significance differences according to the variable of duration of asylum, that is the relationship was higher for (more than 5 years). The study recommend Providing guidance programs for Syrian refugees in Jordan to help enhancing the level of calm ego, because of its positive relationship with post-traumatic growth, through activities provided by civil society organizations.
