Abstract

The Abbasid poetry is considered as rich resource for many technical and intellectual issues, as it shows itself to scholars to navigate through its poems and explore the deep secrets that are derived from the varying culture and civilized nature of the Abbasid era.

 

          This is study aimed to identify the image of grave in the poetry of the Abbasid poet, Abi Al-Atahia, whose poetry represented an important field for addressing his philosophy that is disinterested in life. Indeed, death was a favorable topic in his poetry, a part of an emotional state, and an intellectual topic that pulsates with an Islamic spirits that the poet instilled in his poems, where the image of grave was frankly manifested in his poetry. This image reflected intellectual and perceptual values that allowed diving inside the deep secrets of death. Also, this image paved the way for the following poets to express the human experience that encounters the pleasures of life as compared to the everlasting happiness of the afterlife. In this vein, grave was viewed as a favorable residence and a new life mainly controlled by the values of justice and rightness, as the grave raises deep existential questions and introduces expressive methods that are capable of intellectual exploration and emotional disclosure.

 

          The study showed a high degree of intellectual maturity, technical richness concerning the image of grave in the poetry of Abi Al-Atahia, where he showed privileged expressive methods and poetic richness characterized by deep intellectual features and obvious aesthetic values.
