Semiotics in the Poetry of Abu al-Alaa al-Ma'arri in His Diwan "Saqt al-Zand"

(Titles and Para-texts, Signification, and Image as a Model)

 

This research aims to discuss the most important aspects of semiotics in the poetry of Abu al-Alaa al-Ma'arri and the meanings, indications, and gestures carried by the texts, revealing what these significations convey in titles and introductions, the semiology of signification, and the poetic and dramatic image.

The research aims to uncover the manifestations of semiotic representation, whether linguistic, textual, or visual in al-Ma'arri's work, to produce an aesthetic understanding of the texts and illustrate the significations embedded within according to the semiotic method.

The significance of this research lies in its ability to reveal the most important aspects of semiotics in al-Ma'arri's poetry in his diwan "Saqt al-Zand," through semiotic strategies and the relationship between the sender and the receiver, as well as the degree of influence on the receiver by these texts.

The research is divided into an introduction, a preamble, two sections, and a conclusion. The preamble discusses semiotics, the first section addresses the semiotics of thresholds and titles and the semiology of signification, while the second section discusses the semiotics of the poetic and dramatic image in al-Ma'arri's poetry in "Saqt al-Zand." The conclusion presents the most important findings of the research.
