The Effectiveness of Counseling Program Based on the Cognitive Behavioral Theory in Reduce Social Anxiety Among Teenagers Who Stutter

Abstract

The current study aimed to examining the Effectiveness of Counseling Program based on the Cognitive Behavioral Theory in Reduce Social Anxiety Among Teenagers Who Stutter, the study sample consisted of (20) male adolescents with stuttering at Czech Rehabilitation Hospital in Abu Dhabi\ United Arab Emirates, who were selected intentionally and randomly distributed into two groups, with (10) Of teenagers who stutter as an experimental group, and (10) Of teenagers who stutter as an experimental group as a control group. This study relied on the semi-experimental method, In Order to achieve the aimed of the study, has been developed the Social Anxiety scale, building a counseling program, and testing their psychometric properties before applying them. Results showed statistically significant differences at level of (α = 0.05) between the experimental and control groups in regards to the average performance of the members of each group on the Social Anxiety post scale, these differences are attributed to the counseling program and in favor of the members of the experimental group. Furthermore, the results of the study also showed that there are no statistically significant differences at the level (α = 0.05) between the experimental group in regards to the average group on the Social Anxiety pre and post scale, Indicating the continued effectiveness of the counseling program. The study concluded with anumber of recommendations, the most important of which are: Benefiting from the counseling program based on the Cognitive Behavioral Theory to help Teenagers who stutter reduce social anxiety.
