Abstract : Trans-Contextual Coherence in the Holy Quran: Surah Al-Isra and Surah Al-Kahf as Models – An Analytical Approach

This study is based on the premise of coherence, which posits that every verse of the Quran is linked to the verse that follows it by some connection. It also suggests that every surah prepares for the one that follows it, and even shares a significant number of themes, with considerable overlap between surahs. This overlap is termed “consonance” in this study and is divided into several types: consonance of requests and statements, consonance of commands and prohibitions with narratives, and linguistic consonance. The study also addresses another form of coherence, termed “narrative parallelism,” which is an aspect of coherence found between two stories of the prophets of God: Joseph and Moses. The points of convergence and divergence between these stories are highlighted.
