Abstract

This research aims to demonstrate the role of the syntactic and semantic evidence in distinguishing between the functions of a single grammatical particle, and to reveal how verbal, semantic, and contextual clues cooperate in determining the intended meaning, establishing the grammatical functions of structures, and reducing the likelihood of ambiguity. It also seeks to highlight the importance of the integration of these clues in achieving an accurate reading of the Qur'anic text and a deeper understanding of its grammatical structure.

The research problem lies in uncovering the hidden relationships between the particle and the components of the sentence, revealing the intended semantic implications, and determining the correct path to understanding the text. Meaning does not arise from the particle alone, but rather from its harmony with the syntactic and semantic context in which it appears. This makes studying these clues a necessary entry point for understanding the subtle differences between the various types of the same grammatical particle.

The study adopted a descriptive, analytical, and comparative approach. The study addresses the grammatical phenomenon by describing the uses of a single grammatical particle in various linguistic contexts. It then draws conclusions that highlight the theory of contextual clues, which posits that grammar is not based solely on inflectional markers, but rather on a network of signs (both verbal and semantic) that work together to determine function. The study reveals that Tammam Hassan's method represents a shift from form-based grammar to function- and context-based grammar. The theory's findings confirm that semantic clues are an indispensable explanatory necessity for determining the meanings of particles, especially when they have multiple functions or are ambiguous

. The study recommends expanding the study of semantic clues as a crucial element in determining the grammatical function of a single particle, rather than relying solely on formal or inflectional clues. It also calls for a re-reading of the grammatical heritage in light of modern semantic concepts, particularly those related to context and pragmatic meaning, to reveal the awareness of early grammarians. The importance of contextual clues.
