The current study explores the role of the morphological structures in shaping the meaning in the poem “If tears were to flow from the eyes like oceans” by the poet Aisha Al-Taymur, as a prominent instance of feminist lamentation in the modern era. The study investigates how the morphological structures contributed to building the emotional experience in the poem and their effectiveness in expressing the anguish of separation and pain, according to the descriptive analytical approach.
The study sheds light on the effectiveness of morphological forms in expressing emotional experiences. Additionally, it closely reviews Aisha al-Timuri’s elegy as a text carrying great human depth, in which the poet was able to adapt language tools to serve her inner emotion.
To achieve this goal, the research was divided into an introduction, and two sections. While the first section entails the role of verb structures in building the poem, the second section clarified the role of derivatives and explicit infinitives in the poem.
The conclusion reached several results, most notably that the use of verbs and the use of infinitives and derivatives were loaded with connotations and contributed to conveying the inner thoughts of the poet.
