The perceptions of English teachers towards the effectiveness of an online pronunciation course and its impact on improving their beliefs about online training

Abstract

This paper investigated Jordanian English teachers' opinions and beliefs about English pronunciation in pre and post-online pronunciation courses, as well as evaluated the quality and effectiveness of the online pronunciation course. The sample of the study involves 60 English teachers who attended two pre- and post-course (the online pronunciation course ) surveys. The findings of the study conclude that (i) listening to native English speakers improves learners' pronunciation significantly. (ii) Conversation in English improves the learners' pronunciation. (iii) Learners should not believe that learning correct pronunciation and imitating native speakers diminishes their original identity. (iv) Immersion in language learning is very necessary to master pronunciation. (v) Not only can the native teacher teach pronunciation effectively, but the second language and foreign language teacher can be excellent. (vi) Teachers should develop goals and activities for online teaching pronunciation to reach the stage of proficiency.
