The Big Five Personality Factors Among a Sample of Drug Addicts in Jordan

Abstract

The study objectives were to examine the most prevalent big five personality factors and to identify, and to identify the prevalent factor among alcohol, heroine, and methanol addicts. For achieving these objectives, John and Srivastava big five personality factors scale was used. The sample of the study totaled (116) drug addicts selected from the National Center for Drug Addicts Therapy and Rehabilitation affiliated to AlBashir Hospital in Amman.

The results of the study indicated that the most prevalent bug five personality factors were extraversion, then openness to experiences, agreeableness, and finally conscientiousness. The study showed statistically significant differences in agreeableness due to the type of substance addiction, while no statistically significant differences were found in the big five personality factors due to age, marital status and career status.
