Abstract

Chaos, constant change, and turbulence in the business environment impose undeniable facts and require effective management to confront them. Therefore, the need has emerged to develop a particular type of force capable of achieving proactive strategies, developing the organization’s capabilities to influence the behavior of competitors, and achieving a balance between competitive forces. In this context, this study aimed to shed light on the notion of strategic supremacy and how this concept has developed as one of the modern strategic management models that aim to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. The study adopted the theoretical literature review that has accumulated in the strategic management literature regarding the concept of strategic supremacy, in addition to revealing the development of research related to strategic supremacy over time to place it in a historical context. The study reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which is that the concept of strategic supremacy developed during an attempt to find alternatives to traditional strategic management models, as strategic supremacy is considered a special type of power that gives the organization the ability to control the rules of competition, by creating distributions and controlling its degree and pattern in a rapidly changing business environment.  The study led to several key recommendations, with the most notable being the need for further research to study the impact of the postulated relationships between other management concepts and strategic supremacy in various commercial and industrial sectors.
