Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the regulatory frameworks and compliance with financial consumer protection in Jordanian Islamic banks. The study adopted a descriptive approach to reviewing the regulatory and Sharia frameworks, and an inductive approach to analyze official documents and governance and sustainability reports from Jordanian Islamic banks: the Jordan Islamic Bank, the Islamic International Arab Bank, and Safwa Islamic Bank.

The study concluded that the regulatory frameworks adopted in Jordan represent an advanced step toward enhancing financial consumer protection. However, the effectiveness of these frameworks varies from one bank to another in implementation and practical compliance, particularly in areas such as financial education, fair dealing, transparency, and complaints mechanisms. The study also revealed that the most prominent challenge lies in reconciling Sharia and regulatory obligations. Its most important recommendations include updating the Central Bank's instructions to take into account the specificities of Islamic banking, empowering Sharia supervisory boards to perform an independent and effective oversight role, and documenting and publishing the results of their reports to enhance transparency.
