Abstract
This study examines the meaning of the Qur’anic expression : “Each one should drink in turn” (Sūrat al-Qamar: 28) and explores its relationship with similar Qur’anic structures and with the thematic framework of the surah. Employing inductive, analytical, and inferential methodologies, the study concludes that the expression carries a unique semantic value, indicating that the division of water between the she-camel and the people of Thamūd was fundamentally quantitative. The comparison with related expressions demonstrates that water division elsewhere in the Qur’an appears in spatial or temporal terms, aligning with the intended purpose of the divine miracles sent to humankind. These findings help clarify the nature of the she-camel’s miracle, particularly its atypical drinking pattern in both amount and timing. The study further shows that the expression plays a central role in shaping the surah’s thematic structure, supporting its overarching message.
