Abstract
The current study aimed to identify the effectiveness of a counseling program based on realistic theory in reducing future anxiety among a sample of counselors in Jordan. The study used the quasi-experimental approach, and the study sample consisted of (50) male and female educational counselors in the education directorates of Balqa Governorate. The study tool consisted of a counseling program based on realistic theory consisting of eight counseling sessions and a future anxiety scale consisting of (30) paragraph. The results of the study showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the average of the control group and the average of the experimental group, which indicates the effectiveness of counseling programs based on realistic theory in reducing future anxiety among counselors in Jordan. The results also showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the average performance of the control and experimental study groups. On the future anxiety scale according to the gender variable, while there are statistically significant differences between the average performance of the control and experimental study groups on the future anxiety scale according to the years of experience variable, in favor of the less than 5 years group, and the educational level variable, in favor of the bachelor’s group. In light of the results, the study recommends the need to work on developing psychological counseling programs based on realistic theory for its role in reducing forms of anxiety among counselors, including anxiety about the future.
