Development and Standardization of University Citizenship Behavior Scale (UCBS)

Citizenship is a basic and very important expected outcome of the educational programs and university life span; it is often referred to as the forgotten outcome of colleges and universities.  Having citizenship student’s behavior developed is an indicator of programs quality assurance.  Therefore, the current study aimed at developing and standardizing a scale for university citizenship behavior among students of the University of Jordan. The scale consisted of 39 items of 5-points Likert scale format the scale was administered via online format.  A sample of 473 bachelor students gave responses with an average of 189.12 and a standard deviation of 23.66.  the scale has showed a good indicators of item effectiveness and Validity indexes. Principal Component Analysis with varimax rotation method was carried out for factorial structure analysis. Four main factors were established; Care and Respect, Attitudes Toward the University, In Campus Engagement, and Academic Commitment are suggested as appropriate labeling for these factors. The variance proportion explained by these factors was 27.76%, 11.24%, 4.96% and 4.60% respectively. All four main factors interpreted 48.5% of the variance.  Cronbach’s alpha, Spearman-Brown and Guttman Split-half reliability coefficients were 0.91, 0.90 and 0.90 respectively.  Finally, standards like standard scores, standardized t-scores, percentile ranks equivalent to scale row scores were derived.
