The Level of Understanding of Evolution Theory among the Biology Teachers in Jerash Governorate

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the level of biology teachers’ understanding of the theory of evolution. The sample of the study consisted of (61) male and female teachers teaching Bioloy in the basic and secondary stages schools of the Directorate of Education in Jerash Governorate, representing nearly half of its puplic. A test of understanding the theory of evolution was used in collecting data. The results showed that the level of understanding of the theory of evolution among the biology teachers was low, with mean (10.07) out of the total score (20). Well, there were statistically significant differences between the scores of the members of the study sample in the test of understanding the theory of evolution due to the sex variable, in favor of males, while the differences were not statistically significant to the teaching experience variable.
