The Impact of Dynamic Capabilities on Operational Performance: The Mediating Role of Strategic Ambidexterity at Jordanian Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Companies

The current study aimed at identifying the impact of dynamic capabilities (sensing capability, learning capability, coordinating capability, and integrating capability) on operational performance in the presence of strategic ambidexterity at Jordanian pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. The study population consisted of managers at the top and middle management levels, numbering (520) managers at Jordanian pharmaceutical manufacturing companies, numbering (24) companies. The study used the stratified equal random sample method, where (264) questionnaires were distributed, (11) questionnaires for each company; the number of valid for analysis purposes was (240). The study relied on the quantitative approach (descriptive analytical method) to achieve the study objectives. The PLS-SEM 4 program was utilized to test the study hypotheses.
The study revealed a set of results, the most prominent of which were: The level of relative importance of all variables and dimensions of the study was high at Jordanian pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. The results also showed a significant impact of dynamic capabilities (sensing capability, learning capability, coordinating capability, and integrating capability) on operational performance at Jordanian pharmaceutical companies. The results of the study also indicated a significant impact of strategic ambidexterity as a mediator variable between dynamic capabilities in its dimensions and operational performance at Jordanian pharmaceutical companies.
According to the results, the study recommends a number of recommendations, the most important of which are: enhancing the culture of strategic ambidexterity by encouraging the development of exploratory and exploitative activities within the companies studied, which would help Jordanian pharmaceutical companies achieve a balance between the need for innovation and efficiency, and enhance their operational performance. The study also emphasizes the importance of measuring and tracking performance indicators; this involves developing a set of well-defined indicators that demonstrate the impact of dynamic capabilities on operational performance.
